The WriteSite Marking Key

Use the marking key online

The marking key has been 'locked' in Microsoft Word. You will have to unlock it add it to your assignment cover sheet. The instructions here are for Word 2011 for Mac and Word 2007 for Windows.

Windows users

  1. Open the marking key file in Word.
  2. On the Review tab, in the Protect group, click Protect Document, then choose Restrict Formatting and Editing from the drop-down menu.

  3. In the Protect Document task pane, click Stop Protection.
  4. The file is now unlocked.
  5. Press Ctrl-A to select the contents then Ctrl-C to make a copy.
  6. Open the file containing the assignment cover sheet.
  7. Place your cursor at the point you want to insert the marking key.
  8. Press Ctrl-V. The marking key form is now pasted into your cover sheet.
  9. On the Review tab, in the Protect group, click Protect Document, then choose Restrict Formatting and Editing from the drop-down menu.
  10. In the Protect Document task pane, under Editing restrictions, select the check box for Allow only this type of editing in the document.
  11. In the list of editing restrictions, select Filling in forms.
  12. Under Start enforcement, click Yes, Start Enforcing Protection.
  13. This locks the form in your assignment cover sheet, protecting it from changes.

Mac users:

  1. Open the marking key file in Word.
  2. On the Developer tab, in the Form Controls group, click Protect Form. The file is now unlocked.

  3. Press Cmd-A to select the contents then Cmd-C to make a copy.
  4. In Word, open the file containing the assignment cover sheet.
  5. Place your cursor at the point you want to insert the marking key.
  6. Press Cmd-V. The marking key form is now pasted into your cover sheet.
  7. On the Developer tab, in the Form Controls group, click Protect Form. This locks the form in your assignment cover sheet, protecting it from changes.

You can now use the form. Test that it is working properly and that the unit check boxes can be ticked.
