Introducing the WriteSite to students
It is a good idea to introduce the WriteSite and explain the benefits of using it to students early in semester. Students will be more motivated to use the site if they have a clear understanding of how to use it and how it can help them. It also provides them with the opportunity to improve the quality of their writing before they begin their major assignments.
Demonstrating live
A live demonstration has the advantage of allowing you to step the students through the log-in process and show them how to navigate the site. The practice activities and animations can be shown in motion which is likely to capture student interest and any questions can be answered with reference to the appropriate area of the site.
Some lecture theatres are equipped with computers that have access to the network. If in doubt, ask the Lecture Theatre Attendant and test the connection prior to the lecture. Some computers may need a password.
FMO Audio Visual services provide user support in teaching venues. They can be contacted on 9351 7838, 8.30am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday or for after hours access on 9351 2095 (7.00am - 8.30am and 5.00pm - 9.00pm Monday to Friday). The Audio Visual Services support page is at: http://www.facilities.usyd.edu.au/services/av/support.shtml.
You could also contact Jason Wheatley (FMO AV manager) x18712, jason@facilities.usyd.edu.au (Level 2, G12).
Demonstrating using an Overhead Projector
If your venue does not allow live demonstration, the following screen shots of the WriteSite can be downloaded to your computer and printed on overhead transparencies. (It is best to set 'landscape' orientation under 'File-Page Setup' before you print).

Demonstrating in a Computer Lab
If you have a small cohort of students, you might like to consider booking a computer teaching lab to allow your students to browse the site and get comfortable with using it. Don't forget to remind them to bring along their UniKey username and password to the session.
Student handout
The handout for students can be downloaded and printed for distribution in class. It gives a brief overview of the purpose of the WriteSite, information on accessing the site and contact details for technical and academic support.
