Interpreting the question
This section will help you to identify and interpret the key parts of typical essay questions. By correctly understanding what is required, you will be able to focus exactly on the task you have been set.
Identifying the exact nature of the question:
- directs your research and reading – you will not waste a lot of time reading irrelevant material.
- ensures that your essay accurately reflects the question you have been set.
- prevents a situation where every aspect of your writing (your introduction, your arguments and your conclusion) is affected by an initial misunderstanding.
